The City of Jacksonville issued a build-out permit on July 21, 2026, for 1926 Coffee Co., the café taking the ground floor of The Residences at Barnett at 112 W. Adams Street. Avant Construction Group is renovating the 646-square-foot space at a project cost of $95,000, with Group 4 Design Inc. as architect and interior designer.

The Jacksonville Business Journal reported that Becovic Management Group will manage the café and plans to open it before the end of the year.

“Handcrafted coffee, signature drinks and a unique experience to one of Jacksonville’s most iconic landmarks.”

The year in the name

Becovic has said the name pays tribute to the Barnett’s origins: the building went up in 1926.

The dates for the neighboring towers are clear. The Carling, two streets over, went up in 1925–26 as the Roosevelt Hotel, and 11 East opened in 1926 as the Lynch Building. Becovic owns both.

A website at 1926coffee.com lists the café as coming soon to the Barnett, under the line “Craft coffee rooted in history. Brewed in the iconic Barnett Building.”

The café will have customers upstairs from its first day: 107 apartments on the top eleven floors and offices on floors two through seven, with Laura Street outside the door.
